It all begins with you and the foods you eat which enter your digestive system. This simple concept may not sound glamorous but is critical to better understand intestinal health and vitality.

From where the food goes in (mouth) to where the food goes out (anus), the distance is approximately six times your height. Digestion begins in the mouth when the salivary glands mix with food, which activate digestive enzymes in your stomach.

The food in your stomach is then broken down in approximately 2 hours (if chewed properly). The food continues through the small intestine, (which is approximately 20-22ft), then through the larger intestine or colon and finally excreted.

If you cut open part of the intestines, the inside hole should be about 2” in diameter. The walls of the intestines are filled with “finger-like” membranes called “Villi”. Villi take moisture out of the food and help push the food through the intestinal tract. The Villi also absorb the necessary nutrients required by our bodies.

Overtime, the inside of our intestinal tract begins to fill up and the 2” opening begins to get smaller. Processed food, heavy carbohydrates, white bread, white starches, bagels, muffins and numerous other foods and toxins, poisons, chemicals and preservatives coat the inside of the intestines and become impacted fecal matter.
